The winners of the EFT prize at the CAVATINA Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition on May 13th. were the Mac-Talla Trio from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. A truly international group of musicians – pianist Maurizio Arroyo Reyes from Colombia, violinist Michelle Dierx from the Netherlands and cellist Madelyn Kowalski from the United States – they brought a delicate personal interpretation to the piece. Many congratulations!
The first prize went to the remarkable Mithras Trio from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The 2019 CAVATINA Intercollegiate Music Competition took place at 2pm on Monday May 13th. at the Royal Academy of Music. The top piano trios from UK conservatoires were chosen by their institutions to play Beethoven Piano Trio  in B-flat major, Op 11, (in the version for violin, cello and piano).

The 2019 ROSL music competition is taking place at the moment and the section finals, every Tuesday at 7pm between February 12 and March 19 are open to the public. Come and hear the next generation of young musicians. And find out who the EFT will give their prize to this year!

Susana Gomez Váquez (piano), Cristian Grajner De Sa (violin) and Tomas Isaac (cello) were the EFT prizewinners at the CAVATINA Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition held at RAM on May 15th. It was a tightly fought contest in which each Trio played the set piece – Beethoven’s Piano Trio in C minor, op.1 no.3. We’re delighted to have awarded our prize to the Grajner De Sa Trio and look forward to hearing them in a recital for us in the winter.

The Zelkova Quartet will be playing at Burgh House, in Hampstead, at 7pm on Sunday September 11th. In 2014 the quartet received the Elias Fawcett Trust award at the ROSL music competition. At Burgh House they’ll be playing Debussy, Beethoven, and a piece by Ryan Latimer especially commissioned for them . Tickets at the door.

The Castilian Quartet have been chosen to be represented by YCAT in 2016. In 2011 they received the EFT prize at the Royal Over-Seas League competition and we’ve been following their progress and success with great interest since. At the YCAT finals they gave an outstanding performance of Bartók’s String Quartet No.6. Congratulations!

The Apollo Quartet from the Guildlhall School of Music and Drama won our prize at the CAVATINA Inter Collegiate Chamber Music Competition held at the Royal College of Music on May 11th. The competition alternates quartets and trios and this year it’s the turn of quartets. The ensembles, all from UK conservatoires,competed by playing Beethoven String Quartet in D, Op 18, No. 3. The Isbilia Quartet (Trinity Laban) and the Fitzroy (RAM) shared the First Prize.

The Lipatti Piano Quartet were awarded the EFT prize at this year’s ROSL Music Competition. Congratulations to the Lipatti!! You can hear them at 7.30 pm on April 22 at St. John Smith’s Square as part of the Park Lane Group Young Artists 60th. anniversary series.

Pamela Majaro, co-founder of the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust, and dear friend, died on February 25th. There was a celebration of her life through words and music at the Wigmore Hall on Friday March 18th. at 11am. The Wihan Quartet (and Quintet) played and John Gilhooly and Ioan Davies spoke about her amazing achievements in bringing music to young people through the CAVATINA. Her daughter and grandson spoke movingly for the family.
